Role Overview

Smplhr is seeking a Software Engineer to work on company processes a powerful interactive visualizations of live and recorded data.

What You’ll Work On

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll:

  • Shape engineering operations by optimising workflows, improving team communication, and ensuring smooth cross-functional collaboration.

  • Define and foster engineering excellence by benchmarking against top engineering teams and setting clear expectations for quality, velocity, and consistency in technical rigor.

  • Drive hiring and team growth by managing the hiring pipeline from sourcing to final interviews, ensuring the attraction and retention of top talent.

  • Mentor and develop engineers through 1:1 coaching, career development, and ongoing support for a growing team.

  • Improve organisational processes by assessing and refining our engineering structure, hiring strategies, and overall operational efficiency.

  • Manage a globally distributed team by bridging time zones and ensuring effective collaboration across European and US-based teams as the company scales globally.

  • Align engineering with business goals by helping leadership set realistic hiring plans, balancing team capacity with company milestones, and driving business growth.

We’d Love It If You Have

  • Strong technical background with a passion for people management, having started your career as an engineer before transitioning into engineering leadership over the years.

  • Proven experience managing and growing engineering teams in high-growth startups, ideally within data infrastructure companies or similar.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to mentor, motivate, and develop engineers at various career stages.

  • Technical expertise in distributed systems, data infrastructure, or cloud services, where technical depth is a strong advantage, even though this is not a hands-on coding role.

  • A track record of structuring engineering processes, from hiring to technical execution and effectively scaling teams.

  • Experience leading remote teams, with the ability to manage distributed teams across multiple time zones.

  • A proactive mindset, taking ownership, solving problems independently, and driving key initiatives forward.
